How It Works

Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process in which a neutral mediator helps the people in a dispute communicate, understand what each side needs, and work out their own agreement. The mediator doesn’t decide the outcome.

The Process

A clear, structured path from the first call to a written agreement. You always know what happens next.

Start With A Free Call
  1. Free Consultation

A short call to understand the dispute, who is involved, and whether a case is pending. We talk through whether mediation fits and what the next steps would be. No obligation.

    No Obligation
  2. Agreement to Mediate

Everyone signs a written agreement before anything begins. It covers confidentiality, fees, scheduling, and the mediator’s role as a neutral. Mediators are screened for conflicts of interest before every engagement. Fees are on the Fees & Booking page.

    In Writing
  3. Private Preparation

The mediator speaks with each side separately and confidentially, so everyone arrives ready to work.

    Confidential
  4. The Mediation Session

In person in the DFW area or by video. A typical session moves through an opening that sets the ground rules; each side sharing its perspective; clarifying the issues; exploring options and working through proposals; and, if the parties choose, private conversations between the mediator and each side. The session runs a half day to a full day depending on the dispute.

    In Person Or Online
  5. Written Agreement

If you reach an agreement, the mediator writes down the terms in your own words so everyone leaves with the same understanding. Attorneys can review it before anyone signs.

Working With Attorneys

Attorneys are welcome at every stage. Counsel can attend the session, confer privately with their clients during it, and review any agreement before it is signed. If it would help, send a short, neutral summary of the dispute ahead of time. A mediator facilitates: mediators help the parties and their counsel work through the issues and options, and do not give legal advice or predict the outcome of claims.

Confidentiality

Mediation is confidential, with limited exceptions required by law, such as obligations to report suspected child or elder abuse. The agreement to mediate explains the terms.
